the Newark National Building – The Jewel of Newark
Neo-classical office skyscraper, The National Newark Building stands as the tallest building in Newark at 466 ft. Designed by the father and son architectural firm, John H. & Wilson C. Ely, which also designed Newark City Hall and the American Insurance Company Building. The exterior is mainly tan brick and limestone. The interior ceiling is lined with 24k gold. The top of the building is inspired by the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The ten mezzanine murals by J. Monroe Hewlett and Charles Gulbrandsen depict the growth of commerce in Newark.

SymphonyHallNewark Symphony Hall enjoys a long and rich cultural history as New Jersey’s oldest and largest showcase for the arts, education and entertainment programming. This multi-facility edifice was built by the Shriners, a Masonic order, in 1925 and known as the Salaam Temple. The façade is quite imposing with its massive Ionic columns and the interior is elegant with its sculpted marble designs with gold-leaf ornamentation in the Greek and Egyptian styles.
